if you need more then just just what pidgin, trillian and the rest offer. this is the perfect instant messenger for you. it offers social network alerts, as well as pop email access and even facebook IM. its the complete package and its free

all the features of the likes of trillian and pidgin
pop email access
social messenger alerts
free themes and skins
your settings are saved for the next time you install digsby

Worst:

its in beta so expect occasional crashes
it starts up rather slow
it uses a good deal of memory
